Turks Head 4 – 3 Old Bricklayers

October 22, 2006

nutty-woody-shoudlers-liner.jpgIt looked like an entertaining game from where I was stood. Goals flying in all over the place in the order of 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3 and then Andy J scored the winner in the last minute. A proper 7 goal thriller.

The future videos will be higher quality because I have finally found the video quality setting.
p.s. click the little photo above to see the full size version. I’m not sure what I was aiming for but it was a good test for me. I’ll try and come up with some kind of epic collage next week.

p.p.s the table, golden boot, and results pages have been updated. Click the above links to view them

Bowling Aftermath

October 21, 2006

As the dust settles after the great sporting highlight of the season so far, several important questions are raised. How are you bowels? How’s your breath? How’s your wallet?

Monsieur Gooders won the bowling with a career best of 155 closely followed by Brian (the wine giver) and Kev, Lammie and Easty (something like that anyway). Sparky landed a job as waiter at the copperpot and Sedge didn’t get chance to have his wicked way with the ladies of the night up Oldham because everyone deserted him and went home… however, nutty and easty were the last men standing in the bar |(I think) so who knows what went on in the small hours.

Mark Jones left half a pint on the bar which I kindly donated to the Andy Nuttall beer charity and Kev introduced me to the landlord’s wife – lovely lady.
Apparently, Nicky/Nicki the barmaid has been keeping a close eye on this blog but has so far not commented. Being a modern teenager you’d think she’s be DESPARATE to get commenting. Let’s hear you Nicky! And make sure you wash behind your ears and wear your best lippy on Thursday ‘cos Col wants to take a photo of you for this site – get practising your pose ok?

Bowling & Copperpot Times

October 20, 2006

Here are the times.
Don’t. Be. Late! ;)

  • Meet at Turk’s before 8pm (some are meeting at 7pm)
  • Leave Turk’s at 8pm prompt
  • Bowling Lanes are booked for 8.30pm
  • Copper Pot table is booked for 10pm (winner gets his food & drink paid for)

Bowling, Curry and [no] Debauchery Night

October 17, 2006

This just in from the club’s social secretary’s office…
This Friday, 20th Oct, is the 1st social function of the new season. This really ought to be Parker’s job but as he is elsewhere servicing his Miss Penelope, I shall step up to the plate. We will be rendezvousing in the Turks prior to 20:00 before going to Sandbrook Park for an evening of bowling and curry at the copperpot, Turks Head style. Admittedly, this sounds as camp as a row of tents, but previous visits have been heralded a major success. I need to know by close of play on Thursday who is coming so I can book enough lanes and seats at the table. There are strong rumours of the evening carrying on post Copperpot for those with the stamina (not this poster). So, numbers by Thursday please. For those who have not been on this function with the Turks before a warning that it is no Club 18-30 night of the kind several of the players are looking for – see Parker for such debauchery. Kevin Jackson is Friday’s special guest.

Turks Head 4 – 1 DC United (ROC)

Pre-Match Buildup THFC Vs DC Utd

October 12, 2006

3 days to go until we play DC Utd in the Rochdale Online Cup. Will Orchy rest some of his first 11 to let the keen subs get a game? Will Easty get a start? Will Wizzer be back from injury? Will Nutty make that chubby lad cry again? Have Illy, John, Si, Lammie, Dave Hall and Sedge gone off to start a new team?

Gooooooders thinks he’s pulled his hamstring. A doubt for the weekend.
Wizzer describes himself as “injured” in a recent comment
Sparky, Ste, Mark and Rob Day were on the sidelines during training.
Super-human Hulmey pulled up at one point towards the end of the gruelling fitness regime – not sure what his complaint was though.

Any other news?

Questions for Player Profiles

October 10, 2006

Gooders and I are constructing a player profiles page for the blog and need your help!

We will be distributing a questionnaire to each of you at training on Thursday for you to complete and return at Sunday’s game so we can get the information plugged in ASAP.

But as this site is designed to be a collaborative, democratic effort on behalf of the entire squad (and not just mine and Gooders’ perspective), we want your input in devising the questionnaire.

So, aside from the usual stuff – name, age, position, team supported, etc. – please respond in the comments section of this post with your suggestions and ideas for questions that we can build into the questionnaire.

Try to think of creative questions that could provide fun or interesting answers. So NOT “What is your favourite drink?”, but maybe something like “Do you have any pre-match superstitions or rituals?”.

We will include every question suggested on the survey, but can’t promise every question will make it into the final player profiles. Due to spacing issues we’ll be restricting it to those questions that provide the best answers and most insightful data.

Cheers lads.
