At 8am monsieur Goodwin went for his physio checkup thingy in Middleton where plenty of pushing, pulling, twisting and squeezing was administered. Now comes the science part… concentrate!
It was decided that Mr. Goodwin probably has a meniscal tear. An interesting article on the meniscus can be found here:
http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_report.cfm?Thread_ID=277
Meniscus tears either heal themselves or require surgeory but the only way to be sure is to have a scan costing £350 (private) or free (NHS). After the scan a decision would be made as to whether surgeory is required.

So we are 72 hours away from what will probably be our most important league game this season. Win against FC Dale and we have every chance of going on to claim 2nd place and promotion. Lose and we’ll end up squabbling with Wardleworth for 3rd spot and likely miss out on going up a tier.
Wizzer, Woody and John are all confirmed absentees.
But is Gooders fit yet? Is Ste back this week (if so, please bring him a banjo to hit that cow’s backside with)? Have Andy Nuttall and Stu sobered up from their messy weekend abroad? Is Rob ‘Roger Milla’ Day going to bring his kit again for another suber-sub cameo?
See you at training tonight!

Just looking for everybody to share their thoughts on training over the summer.
If people are interested in meeting up to train in the period between the end of this season, and the start of proper pre-season training (which will commence a few weeks before next season kicks off), we need to start thinking about it now so that we can make the proper arrangements/reservations.
Some thought-starters:
1) Would you rather play indoors or outdoors?
2) If indoors: Soccer Village or Hopwood Hall (or any other suggestions welcome)?
3) If outdoors: Clayton Playing Fields (any other suggestions welcome)?
4) How often do you want to train – once or twice a week? For one hour or two?
5) What day/days would you prefer to train on? Thursday evening? Sunday morning?
All thoughts, opinions and suggestions welcome!

Would we have enough players to field a full side? Could we cope with so many of the squad missing? Will Rob Day rise to the challenge? Is the gaffer going to have to come out of retirement? Has The Machine remembered to put his clock forward?
There were lots of unanswered questions before the game today, but they all became irrelevant as Bay Horse only turned up with nine men, including a glove-less keeper wearing trainers instead of boots, and a ref who decided we would only play 35 minutes each way (for what reason, nobody knows).
But everyone did well in making sure we got the job done anyway, and boosted our goal difference too. A brace from Sparky, followed by goals by Lyonsy (his first for the club), Woody, Mark Curran and…coming from the bench, the new Mr Super Sub…Rob Day!
So that’s four wins on the bounce now, but next week is our biggest game of the season – anything less than a win against FC Dale and we might find ourselves struggling for promotion. We already know John and Woody will be missing, but is anybody else unavailable?
I’ll update this post when the rest of the results from today are in. Hopefully either FC Dale or Wardleworth will have slipped up.

This just in from Sparky:
“Can you please post a new title headed, “Question” – in relation to generating funds for the Turks, what are people’s thoughts on a signing on fee for every player at the start of the season? £20 for example. Cheers.”

Clearly not happy at having it pointed out last week that Sparky had overtaken him as top scorer, Si produced a quality double today to draw level at the top of the golden boot chart, and also to give us a hard-fought (but definitely well-deserved) 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls, Wardleworth. Horrific conditions again, but we still managed to play some decent football, and did well to keep most of the play high up the pitch in their half. Good to see us creating plenty of chances again, and special mention to the deputy deputy skipper, Andy Nuttall, who put in a shift of Owen Hargreaves proportions. I reckon he was trying to prove he deserves the armband on a regular basis!
Anyway, that’s our third win on the bounce now and we really are in with a shout of second place, providing we can keep this form going and beat Bay Horse and FC Dale in the next two games. We owe a bit of revenge to these two sides as both have already beaten us this season, but on each occasion I think you could make an argument that we were hard done by.
And in case you haven’t heard already, the fixtures for the remainder of the season are now available and include some midweek games, and NINE matches in April (maybe more if we progress in the cup competitions). I will print off all the fixture information and provide a copy to each player at training on Thursday.

Here is the photo gallery from the weekend:

Not our best performance of the season, but a good 3-1 win against The Star in windy conditions was a decent result and makes it two wins out of two for our new 4-3-3 formation.
FC Dale and Bay Horse both lost today, so we are definitely back in with a shout for 2nd place in the league, especially if we win the two MASSIVE games we have coming up – we play Wardleworth next Sunday, and Bay Horse the following week.
In other news, Sparky’s brace today has put him on 9 goals for the season and nudged him ahead of Si Orchard in the race for the Turks Head Golden Boot.
